We are pleased to invite you to an enriching session of the Women’s Speaker Series featuring Dr. Shameran Slewa-Younan, esteemed Associate Professor in Mental Health at the School of Medicine, Western Sydney University. Dr. Slewa-Younan also holds positions as an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Mental Health, University of Melbourne, and formerly an Adjunct Fellow at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in the United States.

Dr. Slewa-Younan will present an overview of her extensive research studies and findings, which have significantly advanced the understanding of mental health and trauma within refugee populations. Since 2014, she has been recognized as a leading scholar in the mental health literacy of refugees and other cross-cultural populations, evidenced by her significant research output and collaborations with multiple domestic and international institutions. She has published over 60 peer-reviewed publications and has received awards for her teaching, research, and clinical cross-cultural work.

In addition to her academic contributions, Dr. Slewa-Younan will share a personal narrative of her journey as an Assyrian female academic. Her story exemplifies perseverance, dedication, and success in overcoming the unique challenges faced by women in academia, particularly those from minority backgrounds.
